Logic Models
Initial Logic Model
In my original logic model, my plan was to create an online resource for professional development and help teachers choose modules to complete independently. This was to be amplified with group and individual training sessions that would be provided based on teacher requests. My plan was to rely heavily on technology to provide training to all of the lower school teachers. As the project progressed, I planned to implement learning circles to allow teachers to discuss what they had learned and how it might be utilized in their classrooms.
After taking more time to analyze my plan and to review current research on the topic of teacher continuing professional development, I realized two things. First, the scope of this plan was too broad for one person to implement. At my school, I am the only person working with instructional technologies, so I did not have a support team to assist in developing and executing this plan. My second realization was that this online driven PD was not a format that our lower school teachers would feel comfortable using. Reflecting on the lack of success of last year's PLP webinar series reinforced this new belief. To construct this logic model, I had been developing a plan based on my learning preferences, not those of the teachers I am supporting.
Updated Logic Model
After reviewing the responses to the survey of attitudes, needs and interests, and interviewing each of my three participants, I determined a more informal, one-on-one form of technology professional development would be the most beneficial to the teachers with whom I would be working. With this realization in mind, I updated my logic model to reflect these changes. I will be targeting a small sample of my colleagues instead of the entire lower school teaching faculty. This will enable me to work one-on-one with each participant on a weekly basis and constantly evaluate the pace and topics I am covering with each teacher.
While I understand that this format would not be easily replicated across an entire organization, or even school division, I hope to gain insights to help in the development of a more sustainable system for technology professional development.
